An overtime finish at Kansas Speedway came down to a grueling, door-slamming, and a too-close-to-call finish. When the dust settled and the finish was extensively reviewed, RFK Racing driver Chris Buescher may have not been declared the winner, but he will forever be immortalized as part of the closest finish in NASCAR Cup Series® history. Decades from this 2024 race, NASCAR® fans will likely still refer to the 0.001-second margin between the winner and Buescher as one of the most exciting finishes in the sport’s history. The finish was set up by an epic last-lap battle between Buescher and his closest competitor. Buescher’s No. 17 Castrol EDGE Ford Mustang was defending the lead when the second-place car collided multiple times as they raced towards the checkered flag. The two remained side-by-side as they crossed the finish line, with a review process ultimately deciding Buescher was the second-place finisher by the narrowest of margins. Race fans can now commemorate Buescher’s part in the closest finish in NASCAR Cup Series® history with a raced version die-cast of the No. 17 Ford that will be produced as a part of Lionel Racing’s Checkers or Wreckers line.
