So, Earnhardt had nothing but victory in his sights when he started the 1993 600-mile race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. But winning the longest race of the season can halt momentum like a stop stick, and victory for Earnhardt would not come easily. He found himself a lap down twice. But he battled back each time. And when there were 39 laps to go, the NASCAR® legend took the race lead. The rest is racing history. It was the first time the longest race of the year ended under the lights.
